Intergas Xtreme 30 Combi Gas boiler frequently asked questions

Is the Intergas Xtreme 30 boiler a combi, system or regular boiler?

You may wish to consider installing the Intergas Xtreme 30 if you are looking for a combi boiler for your house or flat.

Combination or combi boilers are highly efficient and save a lot of space in your home. Combi boilers heat water directly from the mains when you turn on a tap and, as a result, you don’t need a hot water storage cylinder or a cold water tank in the roof space.

These boilers are, therefore, suitable for smaller homes and especially those without a loft. They are also cost-effective as the water is heated instantly and distributed on demand rather than being stored. Combi boilers are the most popular type of boilers in the UK and replacing an older boiler with a new combi boiler will reduce your gas bills significantly.

However, there are downsides to this type of boiler. If you take a shower while someone else is using a tap, less water will reach each point of usage at lower rates of pressure and temperatures as combi boilers can only heat a certain volume of water at any given time.

Is the Intergas Xtreme 30 combi boiler the right choice for my house or apartment?

Whether this Intergas Xtreme 30 Combi boiler is right for where you live depends on its size or what its "output" level is. Size does not mean its physical dimensions, however - it means how powerful it is.

The output of a boiler is measured in kilowatts and indicates how much energy it can use to heat the water needed for your radiators, taps and showers. The greater the output, the more water it can heat.

A boiler whose output is too high will give you hot water and warm radiators but also higher gas bills, whereas a boiler whose output is too low will result in cheaper gas bills but the water might not always be as hot as you want it to be.

The output of the Intergas Xtreme 30 combi is 23 kW, so which types of property would this model be appropriate for?

A PlumbProud heating engineer would recommend that this Intergas Xtreme 30 Combi boiler is suitable for smaller homes and apartments with up to 10 radiators and one bathroom.

Flow rates are important when choosing a combi boiler as well as output rates.

A combi boiler's flow rate (measured in litres per minute) describes how much water it can instantly heat then distribute to the taps and radiators in your home - you will need to factor this into your decision on a new combi boiler. This Intergas Xtreme 30 Combi boiler's flow rate is 19 L/m.

If you have a lot of radiators and bathrooms in your home and there's lots of demand within your household for hot water at the same time (like morning or evening showers and baths), you'll need a boiler with a high flow rate.

However, it's not quite that simple. If your local mains water pressure is low, you're not going to gain any benefit from choosing a combi boiler with a high flow rate because that higher flow rate doesn't mean it can draw more water from the mains pipes.
When our engineer comes out to quote you, they may recommend that you choose a heat only boiler or system boiler instead if your family's demand for hot water is higher than normal.

What size is the Intergas Xtreme 30 boiler?

The Intergas Xtreme 30 boiler measures TBC mm [H] x TBC mm [W] x TBC mm [D] in size.

Is the Intergas Xtreme 30 condensing or non-condensing?

We strongly recommend that you choose a condensing boiler like the Intergas Xtreme 30 - the technology is improving every year so the newer the boiler, the better.

A condensing boiler captures and recycles the warmth still present in flue exhaust gases and water vapour condensation into heat, allowing it to perform more efficiently on tasks like heating the colder water returning from your radiators.

They also offer significant annual savings on household gas bills as well as being more environmentally friendly.

Is the Intergas Xtreme 30 combi an environmentally friendly boiler?

As the British public has become more conscious of climate change, many homeowners consider the environment when choosing how to heat their homes.

We generate 14% of UK greenhouse gas emissions through centrally heating our domestic properties. Gas boilers are mainly responsible for harmful nitrogen dioxide emissions in larger British cities.

Would choosing the Intergas Xtreme 30 combi boiler be an environmentally friendly decision? Here's what the figures say.

The energy efficiency rating of the Intergas Xtreme 30 is 93% with a SEDBUK band rating of "A".

Energy efficiency tests record how much energy is wasted on non-core functions during an operation.

By law, all boilers manufactured and supplied in the UK must have a minimum energy efficiency performance level of 92% (equivalent to a SEDBUK "A" grade). Up to April 2018, the minimum performance level was 88% (88% and 89% are equivalent to a SEDBUK "B" grade and 90%+ an "A" grade).

The ERP, short for the Energy Related Products Directive, is a European directive aimed at encouraging manufacturers to create products that are environmentally friendlier at all stages, including during manufacturing, when the product is in active use, right through to the point of final disposal.

The Intergas Xtreme 30 has a rating of "A" for heat and "A" for hot water production.

Intergas Xtreme 30 Combi Gas boiler frequently asked questions

Is this Intergas Xtreme 30 boiler a combi, system or regular boiler?

You may wish to consider installing the Intergas Xtreme 30 if you are looking for a combi boiler for your house or flat.

In many properties, combi boilers are more suitable than traditional types of boiler. Combi boilers heat water instantly on demand, which they draw directly from the mains supply, removing the need for storage tanks that can take up valuable space in your home.

A combi boiler is often the right choice for a smaller property, particularly if your home doesn't have a useable loft. As water is heated and delivered immediately rather than being kept warm for hours in an immersion tank, combi boilers reduce gas usage, thereby minimising your heating costs.

The main disadvantage of combi boilers is that they can only heat a certain amount of water at any one time. This means that, if two people are using different taps or showers within your home at the same time, the flow of heated water to each will be reduced, as will the water pressure and temperature.

Would the Intergas Xtreme 30 combi be a suitable choice of boiler for my house or flat?

Selecting the right boiler for your property means selecting a boiler that is the right "size". And, by size, we don't mean how big it is, we mean how powerful it is - its "output".

The output rate tells you how much energy your boiler has to use to provide you and your family with hot water and central heating. A higher output rate means that it can heat greater volumes of water.

Please be aware, though - if you choose a boiler whose output is too low, the water in your radiators and coming from your taps may not be warm enough. Conversely, if you choose a boiler with too high an output, you'll pay more for gas than is necessary.

The Intergas Xtreme 30 combi boiler has an output level of 23 kW, so which types of property would it be appropriate for?

Most heating engineers would suggest that the Intergas Xtreme 30 combi boiler would be a suitable choice for installation in smaller homes and apartments with up to 10 radiators and one bathroom.

You also need to choose a combi boiler with the right flow rate for where you live.

A combi boiler's flow rate is the maximum volume of water (measured in litres per minute) that it can heat and distribute to your radiators, taps and showers at the same time. This Intergas Xtreme 30 Combi boiler's flow rate is 19 L/m.

However, combi boilers like the Intergas Xtreme 30 draw water directly from the mains and heat it instantly.

If your mains pressure is 12 litres per minute, your boiler can only heat and distribute hot water at a rate of 12 litres per minute even if it has a higher flow rate.

Combi boilers also struggle when multiple people in your home want to use hot water at the same time - for example, someone running the hot water tap in the kitchen and two people wanting to shower in separate bathrooms.

When our engineer comes out to quote you, they may recommend that you choose a heat only boiler or system boiler instead if your family's demand for hot water is higher than normal.

The dimensions of the Intergas Xtreme 30 are

The Intergas Xtreme 30 occupies a space of TBC mm high by TBC mm wide and TBC mm deep.

Is the Intergas Xtreme 30 condensing or non-condensing?

We recommend that you select a condensing boiler like the Intergas Xtreme gas Intergas Xtreme 30 for your home if possible because of the environmental benefits and the money you'll save on your gas bills.

Condensing boilers are much more energy-efficient than older, non-condensing models as they capture and recycle the heat still present in the water vapour condensation and flue exhaust gases that your boiler creates when burning gas for reuse.

Is the Intergas Xtreme 30 combi boiler rated as environmentally friendly?

With so many of us worried about the environmental impact of our personal choices, the relationship between how we heat our homes and climate change has become an important issue for many homeowners.

14% of the UK’s greenhouse gas production comes from central heating. In the bigger cities, gas boilers in particular are responsible for dangerous levels of nitrogen dioxide emissions.

Would choosing the Intergas Xtreme 30 combi be an environmentally-friendly choice? If so, let's look at its performance figures.

All boilers manufactured and installed in the UK are required by law to have an energy efficiency rating of at least 92%, equivalent to a good “A” rating on the SEDBUK scale. Before this, the minimum was 88% (ratings of 88% and 89% are equivalent to a high “B” SEDBUK rating and anything 90% or higher is an "A" rating).

A boiler's energy efficiency rating is designed to let you know how much energy is used and wasted during normal functioning.

The Intergas Xtreme 30 was given an efficiency rating of 93% and a band rating of "A".

The Energy Related Products (ERP) Directive is important European legislation that aims to limit energy use and harmful gas emissions during the manufacturing process, when the product is in use, and after it is disposed of.

For the Intergas Xtreme 30, the ERP Heat rating is "A" and the ERP Water rating is "A".

Am I covered if the Intergas Xtreme 30 combi boiler breaks down?

The Intergas Xtreme 30 boiler is provided with a parts and labour warranty lasting 7 years.
