Intergas Xtreme 30 Combi Gas boiler frequently asked questions

Which category of boiler does the Intergas Xtreme 30 fit into?

If you’re looking for a combi boiler for your house or flat, then the Intergas Xtreme 30 is one you may wish to consider.

Traditional boilers would require you to install one or more storage tanks in your property. These tanks either kept the water warm or stored it for later heating. Manufacturers initially designed and introduced combi boilers to the market to offer homeowners the highest levels of warmth and unlimited hot water without taking up as much space.

Combi boilers provide hot water on demand for your radiators and taps. They take water directly from the mains, heat it immediately as it's needed, and then distribute the hot water around your home.

Combi boilers, however, are limited in terms of how much water they can heat at any given time. For example, if one person wishes to take a shower while another wants to turn on a hot water tap, the amount of water reaching each point drops. This results in a drop in the water pressure as well as the temperature.

Would the Intergas Xtreme 30 combi be a suitable boiler for my house or flat?

You should make sure that the boiler you install in your property is the right "size". And size doesn't mean its physical dimensions, size means how much power it has - the "output".

Your boiler should be able to cope with peak hot water demand in your property and not just your average hot water usage. The output rate of a boiler is measured in kilowatts and tells you how much power a boiler can use to provide hot water to your taps, showers and radiators.

If the output of your boiler is too low, there will often be times when your water isn't as hot as you want. But if your boiler output is too high, it will be more costly to run (often unnecessarily).

The output of the Intergas Xtreme 30 combi boiler is 23 kW kilowatts. Which types of property would this be appropriate for?

An experienced PlumbProud Gas Safe engineer would almost certainly recommend that this Intergas Xtreme 30 Combi boiler would be most suitable for smaller homes and apartments with up to 10 radiators and one bathroom.

You'll also need to be sure to choose a combi boiler with the right flow rate for your home.

The flow rate indicates the maximum volume of hot water (measured in litres per minute) that your boiler can distribute at any given time. This means that if you and your family are likely to be using several taps and showers simultaneously or you have a lot of radiators, you need a boiler with a high flow rate. This Intergas Xtreme 30 Combi boiler's flow rate is 19 L/m.

As with all combi boilers, the Intergas Xtreme 30 is only able to heat and distribute water at the rate at which it actually enters your property.

For this reason, you shouldn't purchase a boiler with a very high flow rate if the flow rate in your mains pipes is lower because the extra capacity doesn't mean it can draw more water from the mains pipes.

When our engineer comes out to quote you, they may recommend that you choose a heat only boiler or system boiler instead if your family's demand for hot water is higher than normal.

The dimensions of the Intergas Xtreme 30 are

The Intergas Xtreme 30 measures TBC mm in height by TBC mm in width by TBC mm in depth.

Is the Intergas Xtreme 30 condensing or non-condensing?

This Intergas Xtreme 30 is a condensing gas boiler - we always recommend that clients choose the latest condensing models to benefit from the technology, which continues to improve year after year.

Condensing boilers capture the heat still present in flue exhaust gases and water vapour condensation, processing them through a secondary heat exchanger to, among other tasks, heat colder water returning from your radiators.

By selecting a modern condensing boiler, you'll save money on your gas bills as well as benefitting the wider environment.

Is the Intergas Xtreme 30 combi boiler an environmentally friendly choice?

How we heat our homes and the damage we might be doing to the environment as a result has become an important point of concern to many homeowners worried about climate change.

We generate 14% of UK greenhouse gas emissions through centrally heating our domestic properties. Gas boilers are mainly responsible for harmful nitrogen dioxide emissions in larger British cities.

Will installing a Intergas Xtreme 30 combi be a positive contribution to the environment? Let's see what the experts say.

All new British boilers must perform to a legal minimum energy efficiency of 92% (a low to good SEDBUK "A" rating). Prior to April 2018, the target was 88% (86-90% = SEDBUK "B" and 90%+ = SEDBUK "A").

Efficiency ratings are intended to let consumers know how much energy a boiler uses in its day-to-day activities and how much energy goes to waste.

The Intergas Xtreme 30 was awarded an efficiency rating of 93%, equivalent to a SEDBUK grade of "A".

All products that consume energy throughout their lifespan must comply with the Energy Related Products (ERP) Directive.

Companies are legally obliged to reduce harmful gas emissions at all stages of a product's life cycle, from initial manufacturing right through to final disposal as well as when the product is in actual use.

The Intergas Xtreme 30 scores "A" for heat and "A" for water.

What warranty does the Intergas Xtreme 30 combi boiler come with?

Parts and labour charges incurred during a repair on the Intergas Intergas Xtreme 30 boiler are covered by a 7 year warranty.

Intergas Xtreme 30 Combi Gas boiler frequently asked questions

What kind of boiler is the Intergas Xtreme 30 - standard, combi or system?

You might want to consider the Intergas Xtreme 30 for your house or flat if you are looking for a combi boiler.

Traditionally, boilers needed one or more large tanks installed in your property to store their heated water or water that was to be heated later. These tanks were often too large to be practical for most homes so the combi boiler was introduced to Britain in the 1970s by manufacturers to help homeowners overcome this issue.

Instead of using tanks as storage, a combi boiler heats water on demand. It draws water from the mains and heats it instantly on demand before distributing it to wherever it is needed in a property, be it your taps or radiators.

Unfortunately, combi boilers have one main disadvantage for larger properties or larger households. Because they have a maximum volume of water that can be heated on demand at any given time, water pressure, volume and temperature will drop if, for example, someone is taking a shower and another person in your home wants to use a hot water tap at the same time.

Is the Intergas Xtreme 30 combi boiler suitable for my house or apartment?

To determine that, we need to consider the size of the boiler. Size doesn't mean how big the boiler is - it means how big its "output" is.

This Intergas Xtreme 30 Combi boiler gets its power from gas and the power it's capable of producing is measured in kilowatts - the output rate is actually a kilowatt rate. The higher the output rate, the more kilowatts a boiler can use when heating water.

If you choose a boiler whose output rate is too low, it may not have enough power to make your water as hot as you would like. If you choose a boiler whose output rate is too high, you won't have to put up with lukewarm water but you will face higher gas bills.

The Intergas Xtreme 30 combi boiler has an output level of 23 kW, so which types of property would it be appropriate for?

Most experienced heating engineers would likely recommend that, at this level of output, this Intergas Xtreme 30 Combi boiler would be a suitable choice for smaller homes and apartments with up to 10 radiators and one bathroom.

Please remember too that all combi boilers draw water from the mains - they have no storage tanks. Combis heat the water from the mains on demand and then send it to wherever it's needed in the house, like a radiator, a bathroom or a kitchen.

The speed at which it can do this is called the "flow rate", which is measured in litres per minute. If you have a lot of radiators and bathrooms in your home and multiple people are regularly trying to use the hot water at one time, such as in the morning or evening, you'll need a combi with a high flow rate. This Intergas Xtreme 30 Combi boiler's flow rate is 19 L/m.

However, it's not that simple. Combis can only draw water from the mains at the speed it's delivered. If the flow rate of the local water supply is 11l/m, you shouldn't purchase a boiler with a flow rate of 17l/m because it will never be able to use that extra capacity.

When our engineer comes out to quote you, they may recommend that you choose a heat only boiler or system boiler instead if your family's demand for hot water is higher than normal.

What size is the Intergas Xtreme 30 boiler?

The Intergas Xtreme 30 has the following dimensions - TBC mm high, TBC mm wide, and TBC mm deep.

Is the Intergas Xtreme 30 non-condensing or condensing?

The Intergas Xtreme 30 is a condensing gas boiler - we’d strongly recommend that you choose the very latest condensing model for your home.

Condensing boilers run on either gas or oil and are manufactured specifically to improve energy efficiency. They do this by capturing and recycling the warmth present in flue exhaust gases and water vapour condensation into more usable heat the system can use, meaning they're far more efficient and cost less to run.

Is the Intergas Xtreme 30 combi an energy-efficient boiler?

As more of us are increasingly concerned about climate change, how we heat our homes and its impact on the environment has become an issue of importance to homeowners.

14% of the UK’s greenhouse gas production comes from central heating. In the bigger cities, gas boilers in particular are responsible for dangerous levels of nitrogen dioxide emissions.

Would choosing a Intergas Xtreme 30 combi help in the fight against climate change? What do the performance statistics suggest?

All boilers manufactured in the UK from April 2018 must achieve a SEDBUK “A” grade and an energy efficiency rating of 92% or above. Before that, the minimum was 88% - efficiency ratings of 88% and 89% were scored a “B” and 90%+ an "A".

A boiler's energy efficiency rating describes how much energy it uses and wastes during its standard operation.

The energy efficiency of the Intergas Xtreme 30 was rated at 93% with a SEDBUK grading of "A".

The Energy Related Products (ERP) directive is Europe-wide legislation designed to reduce harmful gas emissions at all points of a product's life cycle - from the production process to its actual end use, right through to final disposal.

The Intergas Xtreme 30 has a rating of "A" for heat and "A" for water.

Am I covered if the Intergas Xtreme 30 combi boiler breaks down?

On the Intergas Xtreme 30, the manufacturer offers a parts and labour warranty of 7 years.
