Intergas Xclusive 24 Combi Gas boiler frequently asked questions

Is the Intergas Xclusive 24 a system boiler, a combi boiler or a regular boiler?

Suitable for a house or a flat, the Intergas Xclusive 24 combi boiler is worth considering if you want a combi boiler.

Traditionally, boilers needed one or more large tanks installed in your property to store their heated water or water that was to be heated later. These tanks were often too large to be practical for most homes so the combi boiler was introduced to Britain in the 1970s by manufacturers to help homeowners overcome this issue.

Instead of using tanks as storage, a combi boiler heats water on demand. It draws water from the mains and heats it instantly on demand before distributing it to wherever it is needed in a property, be it your taps or radiators.

Unfortunately, combi boilers have one main disadvantage for larger properties or larger households. Because they have a maximum volume of water that can be heated on demand at any given time, water pressure, volume and temperature will drop if, for example, someone is taking a shower and another person in your home wants to use a hot water tap at the same time.

Is the Intergas Xclusive 24 combi boiler suitable for my house or apartment?

It's best to choose a boiler whose size or "output" is right for your property. With boilers, however, size does not mean how big a boiler is, it means how much power it has.

A boiler’s output indicates the amount of power it can use when heating the water which it then sends to your taps and radiators. The higher the output rate, the more water it can heat.

If a boiler’s output is too low, there will be times when your hot water might not be as hot as you want it to be. If it is too high, you’ll likely be paying more than you need to for your gas.

Measured in kilowatts, the Intergas Xclusive 24 combi's output level is 18 kW, so which types of property would this Intergas Xclusive 24 Combi boiler be an appropriate choice for?

An experienced heating engineer would say that this Intergas Xclusive 24 Combi boiler's level of output makes it a suitable installation for smaller homes and apartments with up to 10 radiators and one bathroom.

When choosing a combi boiler for your home, you need to think about "flow rates" as well as output rates. This Intergas Xclusive 24 Combi boiler's flow rate is 14 L/m.

This indicates the maximum volume of hot water (measured in litres per minute) that your boiler can heat then distribute to your taps, showers and radiators at any one time. The greater the demand for hot water in your home, the higher the flow rate you will require.

However, all combi boilers like the Intergas Xclusive 24 draw water directly from the mains and heat it instantly.

This means that they can only heat and distribute water at the rate it enters the property (the "mains pressure" rate). For example, if your mains pressure is 11 litres per minute, this will be the highest flow rate you can achieve even if your boiler's flow rate is 17l/m.

When our engineer comes out to quote you, they may recommend that you choose a heat only boiler or system boiler instead if your family's demand for hot water is higher than normal.

What are the proportions of a Intergas Xclusive 24 boiler?

The Intergas Xclusive 24 has the following dimensions - TBC mm high, TBC mm wide, and TBC mm deep.

Is the Intergas Xclusive 24 a condensing or non-condensing boiler?

We recommend the Intergas Xclusive 24 as it is a modern condensing gas boiler from a trusted manufacturer with a reputation for supplying highly energy-efficient boilers.

Condensing boilers capture the heat still present in water vapour condensation and flue exhaust gases and recycle it back into the heating system. With this extra energy, your boiler can, among other tasks, reheat colder water coming back from your radiators without having to burn more gas.

Condensing boilers significantly reduce your quarterly gas costs and they're better for the environment.

Is choosing the Intergas Xclusive 24 combi boiler environmentally friendly?

More and more homeowners are aware of the importance of how we heat our homes and its impact on climate change and other environmental issues.

Central heating creates 14% of the UK’s greenhouse gases. And in Britain's larger cities, gas boilers are responsible for dangerous levels of nitrogen dioxide emissions.

Do the figures suggest that installing the Intergas Xclusive 24 combi at your property would help in the fight against climate change?

All boilers manufactured and supplied in the UK are assigned two energy efficiency ratings. By law, they must achieve a SEDBUK "A" rating subject to a minimum efficiency level of 92%. Prior to that, the minimum was 88% (88% and 89% are equivalent to a SEDBUK "B" grade and 90% and above an "A" grade).

The ratings awarded to the Intergas Xclusive 24 are 92% with a SEDBUK rating of "A".

The Energy Related Products Directive (ERP) is European legislation that applies to all products which use or consume energy during their lifespan - this includes during the manufacturing process and when they're in use, right through to the point of final disposal.

The aim is to encourage manufacturers to create new products that are kinder to the environment and which create fewer harmful gas emissions.

The Intergas Xclusive 24 has an ERP Heat rating of "A".

Is there a warranty on the Intergas Xclusive 24 combi boiler if it breaks down?

The Intergas Xclusive 24 boiler offers a parts and labour warranty of 10 years.

Intergas Xclusive 24 Combi Gas boiler frequently asked questions

Is the Intergas Xclusive 24 a combi, system or regular boiler?

The Intergas Xclusive 24 is an option you may wish to consider if you’re looking for a combi boiler for your house or flat.

Traditional boilers need one or more large tanks to work - one to heat and keep water warm for immediate use and the other to store water intended for heating later. Finding space for these large tanks is difficult in British residential property - remember that our houses and flats are among the smallest in the world. This is the problem that combi boilers were designed to solve when they were introduced in the 1970s.

Combi boilers don't need a tank - instead, they instantly heat water drawn from the mains using technology inside the boiler. This hot water is then distributed immediately to your taps or radiators on demand.

The biggest disadvantage to combi boilers is that they have a maximum capacity for heating water, meaning that they work best when only one point within a household wants hot water. For example, if someone is taking a shower and another person uses a hot water tap at the same time, the water pressure, volume and temperature to both points drops.

Should I install a Intergas Xclusive 24 combi boiler in my house or apartment?

To determine that, we need to consider the size of the boiler. Size doesn't mean how big it is - it means how big its "output" is.

The output rate of a boiler tells you how much power it has available to it for heating the water that comes out of your taps and warms your radiators. A higher output rate means that your boiler has more power at its disposal.

You need to make sure you select a boiler with the right output rate. That's because, if your output rate is too high, then your boiler will have more power than it needs but it will cost too much to run. If the output rate is too low, your water may often not be hot enough.

The Intergas Xclusive 24 combi's output is 18 kW, so which types of property would this Intergas Xclusive 24 Combi boiler be appropriate for?

Most boiler engineers would recommend that a boiler with this output level would be most suitable for smaller homes and apartments with up to 10 radiators and one bathroom.

In addition to output rates, you need to consider a combi boiler's flow rate when making your choice.

The flow rate of your boiler dictates the maximum volume of water (measured in litres per minute) that it can heat and distribute to your taps, showers and radiators at any one time.

However, a combi boiler like the Intergas Xclusive 24 can only heat and deliver water at the rate at which it actually enters your property. For this reason, you should also find out what the mains pressure to your house is before purchasing a boiler.

It's pointless spending more money on a boiler with a 17l/m flow rate if the local water pressure is 11l/m. To give you an indication of average water demand, a power shower typically requires 12 litres of water per minute and a basin tap 4-8 litres. This Intergas Xclusive 24 Combi boiler's flow rate is 14 L/m.

When our engineer comes out to quote you, they may recommend that you choose a heat only boiler or system boiler instead if your family's demand for hot water is higher than normal.

The size of the Intergas Xclusive 24

The dimensions of the Intergas Xclusive 24 are TBC mm tall, TBC mm wide, and TBC mm deep.

Is the Intergas Xclusive 24 a condensing or non-condensing boiler?

This Intergas Xclusive 24 is a condensing gas boiler - we always recommend that clients choose the latest condensing models to benefit from the technology, which continues to improve year after year.

Condensing boilers capture the heat still present in flue exhaust gases and water vapour condensation, processing them through a secondary heat exchanger to, among other tasks, heat colder water returning from your radiators.

By selecting a modern condensing boiler, you'll save money on your gas bills as well as benefitting the wider environment.

How does the Intergas Xclusive 24 combi boiler rate environmentally?

How we heat our homes and the damage this does to the environment has become a pressing concern for many homeowners worried about the effects and impact of climate change.

Dangerous levels of nitrogen dioxide emissions in larger UK cities are caused by gas boilers in domestic properties, and 14% of the UK’s greenhouse gas production is as a result of central heating.

If you decide to install a Intergas Xclusive 24 combi in your home, will you be helping the environment with your choice? Let’s have a look at the figures.

All boilers manufactured in the UK from April 2018 must operate at a minimum level of energy efficiency of 92% ("A" rating on the SEDBUK scale). Before that, the minimum was 88% - boilers scoring 88/89% were given a SEDBUK "B" rating and 90% or above an "A" rating.

The energy efficiency score of a boiler indicates how much energy it uses and how much goes to waste when in use.

After its assessment, the Intergas Xclusive 24 was given an efficiency rating of 92% and a SEDBUK grading of "A".

The Energy Related Products Directive, also known as ERP, is European legislation that intends to reduce energy consumption related to products right from their initial manufacturing process through to eventual final disposal.

The purpose of the directive is to encourage manufacturers to create new products that are kinder to the environment and which result in lower overall harmful gas emissions through a product's entire life cycle.

The Intergas Xclusive 24 has a rating of "A".

Does the Intergas Xclusive 24 combi boiler come with a warranty?

The parts and labour warranty on the Intergas Xclusive 24 lasts for 10 years.
