Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 Combi Gas boiler frequently asked questions

What kind of boiler is the Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 - standard, combi or system?

The Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 boiler could be suitable for your house or flat if you are looking for a new combi boiler.

In the past, most boilers needed one or more storage tanks to operate - one to store warm water and the other for storing water to be heated later. But storage tanks are problematic in properties where space is at a premium and particularly where there is no loft. Many properties in the UK are small and so manufacturers introduced combi boilers in the 1970s to eliminate the need for tanks.

With a combi boiler, the hot water for your radiators and taps is delivered on demand. The boiler instantly heats water it draws directly from the mains internally. It then distributes the heated water around your home at mains pressure as you need it.

It is important to bear in mind that, while combi boilers have many benefits, they can only heat a certain volume of water at any given time. This means that, if you run a shower at the same time as someone else is doing the washing up in the kitchen, the volume of water passing to each point will drop, causing a fall in pressure.

Is a Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 combi a suitable choice for my house or flat?

Whether this Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 Combi boiler is right for where you live depends on its size or "output" level. Size does not mean its physical dimensions, however - it means how powerful it is.

Measured in kilowatts, a boiler's output level is an indication of the amount of power it has available to it to heat the water coming from your taps and for warming your radiators. The greater the output level, the more water it can heat.

If you choose a boiler whose output level is too low, you'll often find that the water is not as hot as you want it to be. If you choose a boiler whose level is too high, you'll be paying higher gas bills than you need to for years to come.

The output of the Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 combi is 26 kW, so which types of property is this Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 Combi boiler appropriate for?

Most experienced heating engineers would likely recommend that, at this level of output, this Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 Combi boiler would be a suitable choice for smaller homes and apartments with up to 10 radiators and one bathroom.

In addition to output rates, you need to consider a combi boiler's flow rate when making your choice.

The flow rate of your boiler dictates the maximum volume of water (measured in litres per minute) that it can heat and distribute to your taps, showers and radiators at any one time.

However, a combi boiler like the Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 can only heat and deliver water at the rate at which it actually enters your property. For this reason, you should also find out what the mains pressure to your house is before purchasing a boiler.

It's pointless spending more money on a boiler with a 17l/m flow rate if the local water pressure is 11l/m. To give you an indication of average water demand, a power shower typically requires 12 litres of water per minute and a basin tap 4-8 litres. This Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 Combi boiler's flow rate is 13 L/m.

When our engineer comes out to quote you, they may recommend that you choose a heat only boiler or system boiler instead if your family's demand for hot water is higher than normal.

What size is the Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 boiler?

The Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 is TBC mm in height, TBC mm in width and TBC mm in depth.

Is the Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 non-condensing or condensing?

We recommend that, if possible, you choose a condensing boiler like the Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32.

Condensing boilers are more energy-efficient. They achieve this efficiency by capturing the heat present in flue exhaust gases and water vapour condensation and recycling that heat to, for example, warm colder water coming back from your radiators.

By choosing the latest condensing boiler, you'll also notice a significant reduction in your gas bills, particularly if you're replacing a boiler more than 15 years old.

How energy efficient is the Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 combi?

How we heat our homes and the damage we might be doing to the environment as a result has become an important point of concern to many homeowners worried about climate change.

In the UK, central heating is responsible for 14% of greenhouse gas production. Domestic gas boilers emit large quantities of nitrogen dioxide in British cities.

Would choosing the Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 combi help the environment? Let's see what the statistics suggest.

The Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 has been awarded an efficiency rating of 93% and a SEDBUK band rating of "A".

In the UK, all boilers manufactured and supplied must have an energy efficiency rating of at least 92% or a SEDBUK "A" grade. Until April 2018, the minimum rating was 88% (88% and 89% are equivalent to a SEDBUK "B" rating and anything higher is rated "A").

A boiler's energy efficiency rating describes the amount of energy it uses and wastes when in normal operation.

The Energy Related Products (ERP) Directive is important European legislation that aims to limit energy use and harmful gas emissions during the manufacturing process, when the product is in use, and after it is disposed of.

For the Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32, the ERP Heat rating is "A" and the ERP Water rating is "A".

What warranty do I get if I purchase the Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 boiler?

Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 Combi Gas boiler frequently asked questions

Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 - a regular boiler, combi boiler or system boiler?

The Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 is a gas combi boiler.

Traditional boilers consist of one or more large tanks that take up a lot of space in people's homes. One tank heats water and keeps it warm and the other stores water for heating later.

In contrast, a combi boiler is a much smaller stand-alone unit. Instead of requiring water tanks, it draws cold water from the mains. When hot water is needed for a shower, for the washing up, or the dishwasher, the cold water is heated instantly by the boiler and distributed to where it is needed.

The main disadvantage of combi boilers is that there is a limit to how much water they are capable of heating at the same time. For instance, water pressure, volume and temperature will be adversely affected if more than one individual in the home needs hot water at the same time.

Should I install a Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 combi boiler in my house or apartment?

You should make sure that the boiler you choose for your property is the right "size". And size doesn't mean its physical dimensions. Size means how much power it has - the "output".

A boiler's output level measures how much power it can use to provide you with the hot water you need for your radiators and taps. If a boiler has a high output rate, it can heat greater volumes of water.

If you choose a boiler with too low an output, you'll find that the water coming out of your taps and in your radiators won't be as hot as you want it to be. Choosing one whose output is too high means you'll pay more than you need to for the gas your boiler needs to work.

The Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 combi outputs at a maximum of 26 kW, so which types of property would this Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 Combi boiler be appropriate for?

Most experienced boiler engineers would recommend this Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 Combi boiler as a suitable option for smaller homes and apartments with no more than up to 10 radiators and one bathroom.

With combi boilers, you need to consider the flow rate as well as the output rate. The flow rate (shown in litres per minute) measures how much water your boiler can draw from the mains which it then instantly heats and distributes to your taps and radiators.

However, a high flow rate is of little to no value if your local water pressure is low. If your local mains water pressure is 10l/m and your flow rate is 12l/m, your boiler will only be able to process 10l/m.

If you live in an area with high water pressure but your household has multiple bathrooms and/or radiators and many members of your household want to use hot water at the same time (like morning or evening baths or showers), it's unlikely that you'll be able to find a combi with a high enough flow rate.

As an indication, a power shower needs about 10 litres of water per minute, whereas the flow rate of this Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 Combi boiler is 13 L/ml/m.

When our engineer comes out to quote you, they may recommend that you choose a heat only boiler or system boiler instead if your family's demand for hot water is higher than normal.

What are the proportions of a Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 boiler?

Ideal’s Vogue GEN2 C32 is TBC mm tall, TBC mm wide, and TBC mm deep.

Is the Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 non-condensing or condensing?

We strongly recommend that you choose a condensing boiler like the Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 - the technology is improving every year so the newer the boiler, the better.

A condensing boiler captures and recycles the warmth still present in flue exhaust gases and water vapour condensation into heat, allowing it to perform more efficiently on tasks like heating the colder water returning from your radiators.

They also offer significant annual savings on household gas bills as well as being more environmentally friendly.

Does the Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 combi protect the environment?

Environmentally-friendly heating has become an important issue for homeowners concerned about the accelerating pace of climate change.

Dangerous levels of nitrogen dioxide emissions in larger UK cities are caused by gas boilers in domestic properties, and 14% of the UK’s greenhouse gas production is as a result of central heating.

Let's take a closer look at whether installing a Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 combi would be a good choice for the environment.

All boilers manufactured and supplied in the UK must achieve an energy efficiency rating of at least 92% (an "A" SEDBUK grade). This is higher than the previous 88%, which was a legal requirement prior to April 2018.

The energy efficiency rating is used to work out how much energy a boiler both uses and wastes when it's switched on and working correctly - its standard functioning and operation.

The Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 is rated as 93% energy efficient, equivalent to a "A" SEDBUK rating.

How many years does the warranty period cover on a Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 boiler?

A parts and labour warranty of 8 years is included with the Ideal Ideal Vogue GEN2 C32 boiler.
