Ideal Vogue C26 Combi Gas boiler frequently asked questions

What kind of boiler is the Ideal Vogue C26 - standard, combi or system?

If you’re looking for a combi boiler for your house or flat, then the Ideal Vogue C26 is one you may wish to consider.

Traditional boilers would require you to install one or more storage tanks in your property. These tanks either kept the water warm or stored it for later heating. Manufacturers initially designed and introduced combi boilers to the market to offer homeowners the highest levels of warmth and unlimited hot water without taking up as much space.

Combi boilers provide hot water on demand for your radiators and taps. They take water directly from the mains, heat it immediately as it's needed, and then distribute the hot water around your home.

Combi boilers, however, are limited in terms of how much water they can heat at any given time. For example, if one person wishes to take a shower while another wants to turn on a hot water tap, the amount of water reaching each point drops. This results in a drop in the water pressure as well as the temperature.

Should I install a Ideal Vogue C26 combi boiler in my home?

Selecting the right boiler for your property means selecting a boiler that is the right "size". And, by size, we don't mean how big it is, we mean how powerful it is - its "output".

The output rate tells you how much energy your boiler has to use to provide you and your family with hot water and central heating. A higher output rate means that it can heat greater volumes of water.

Please be aware, though - if you choose a boiler whose output is too low, the water in your radiators and coming from your taps may not be warm enough. Conversely, if you choose a boiler with too high an output, you'll pay more for gas than is necessary.

The Ideal Vogue C26 combi boiler has an output level of 26 kW, so which types of property would it be appropriate for?

Most boiler engineers would recommend that a boiler with this output level would be most suitable for smaller homes and apartments with up to 10 radiators and one bathroom.

Please remember too that all combi boilers draw water from the mains - they have no storage tanks. Combis heat the water from the mains on demand and then send it to wherever it's needed in the house, like a radiator, a bathroom or a kitchen.

The speed at which it can do this is called the "flow rate", which is measured in litres per minute. If you have a lot of radiators and bathrooms in your home and multiple people are regularly trying to use the hot water at one time, such as in the morning or evening, you'll need a combi with a high flow rate. This Ideal Vogue C26 Combi boiler's flow rate is 11 L/m.

However, it's not that simple. Combis can only draw water from the mains at the speed it's delivered. If the flow rate of the local water supply is 11l/m, you shouldn't purchase a boiler with a flow rate of 17l/m because it will never be able to use that extra capacity.

When our engineer comes out to quote you, they may recommend that you choose a heat only boiler or system boiler instead if your family's demand for hot water is higher than normal.

What are the proportions of a Ideal Vogue C26 boiler?

Ideal’s Vogue C26 is 740 mm tall, 445 mm wide, and 330 mm deep.

Vogue C26 – non-condensing or condensing?

We recommend the Ideal Vogue C26 as it is a modern condensing gas boiler from a trusted manufacturer with a reputation for supplying highly energy-efficient boilers.

Condensing boilers capture the heat still present in water vapour condensation and flue exhaust gases and recycle it back into the heating system. With this extra energy, your boiler can, among other tasks, reheat colder water coming back from your radiators without having to burn more gas.

Condensing boilers significantly reduce your quarterly gas costs and they're better for the environment.

Is the Ideal Vogue C26 combi boiler rated as environmentally friendly?

How we heat our homes and the damage we might be doing to the environment as a result has become an important point of concern to many homeowners worried about climate change.

Central heating accounts for 14% of greenhouse gas emissions in the UK. In larger British cities, gas boilers emit dangerous levels of nitrogen dioxide into the atmosphere.

Would choosing the Ideal Vogue C26 combi boiler be an environmentally friendly decision? Here's what the figures say.

All boilers manufactured after April 2018 in the UK must be rated as an “A” on the SEDBUK grading system, subject to a minimum energy efficiency rating of 92% or above. Before that, the minimum rate was 88% - boilers with an energy efficiency of 88% or 89% were given a “B” rating. Boilers scoring 90% or more were given an "A" rating.

The energy efficiency rating for a boiler describes the amount of energy it uses and how much goes to waste in operation.

The Ideal Vogue C26 has an efficiency rating of 93% with a SEDBUK grade of "A".

The Energy Related Products Directive, also known as ERP, is European legislation that intends to reduce energy consumption related to products right from the initial manufacturing process through to eventual final disposal.

The purpose of the directive is to encourage manufacturers to create new products that are kinder to the environment and which result in lower overall harmful gas emissions through a product's entire life cycle.

The Ideal Vogue C26 has a rating of "A" for heat and "A" for water.

How long is the warranty offered by the manufacturer for the Ideal Vogue C26 boiler?

The Ideal Vogue C26 is supplied with a parts and labour warranty of 8 years.

Ideal Vogue C26 Combi Gas boiler frequently asked questions

Is the Ideal Vogue C26 boiler a combi, regular or a system boiler?

You might want to consider the Ideal Vogue C26 for your house or flat if you are looking for a combi boiler.

Combi boilers have much to recommend them - not least the fact that they save a lot of space. Combination (or combi) boilers were introduced by manufacturers in the 1970s to provide practical central heating and hot water distribution to smaller properties - remember that UK houses and flats tend to be among the smallest in the developed world.

Traditional boilers require one or more storage tanks to keep hot water warm and to store water for heating later. In contrast, combi boilers draw water directly from the mains supply and heat it instantly, removing the need for a storage tank. The heated water is then distributed to your taps and radiators on demand.

While combi boilers are suitable choices for many properties, especially those without a loft, there is also a disadvantage in using them. Water is heated instantly and the volume of water that can be heated at any one time is limited. This can result in less water being sent to taps and showers if more than one is being used simultaneously. In these instances, the water pressure to both points will drop.

Is a Ideal Vogue C26 combi boiler appropriate for my house or apartment?

You should make sure that the boiler you install in your property is the right "size". And, by size, we don't mean how big it is, we mean how powerful it is - the "output".

Your boiler has to be powerful enough to heat all the hot water you need for your radiators and taps. Power is measured in kilowatts and the more kilowatts a boiler has available to it, the more water it can heat.

If the output (measured in kilowatts) is too high, you'll have all the power you need and more but your gas bills will be much higher. If it's too low, you'll often find that the water coming out of your taps and fed into your radiators is only lukewarm.

With the Ideal Vogue C26 combi's output at 26 kW, which types of property would this Ideal Vogue C26 Combi boiler be most appropriate for?

Most experienced heating engineers would likely recommend that, at this level of output, this Ideal Vogue C26 Combi boiler would be a suitable choice for smaller homes and apartments with up to 10 radiators and one bathroom.

You need to consider the flow rate as well as the output rate when choosing a combi boiler.

Flow rates, measured in litres per minute, indicate how much water your boiler can heat and distribute around your home at any given time. If your family regularly use hot water around the house at the same time and you have a lot of radiators, you should choose a boiler with a high flow rate. This Ideal Vogue C26 Combi boiler's flow rate is 11 L/m.

However, you also need to consider the flow rate of your local mains water supply. Combis can only draw water from the mains as fast as the pipes can deliver it. If you choose a boiler with a 14l/m flow rate and the mains pipes into your home have a flow rate of 12l/m, your boiler won't be able to operate at full capacity. In other words, try to make sure the local water pressure and your boiler flow rates are as close as possible.

When our engineer comes out to quote you, they may recommend that you choose a heat only boiler or system boiler instead if your family's demand for hot water is higher than normal.

What size is a Ideal Vogue C26 boiler?

The Ideal Vogue C26 is 740 mm [H] by 445 mm [W] by 330 mm [D] in size.

Vogue C26 – non-condensing or condensing?

We recommend that, if possible, you choose a condensing boiler like the Ideal Vogue C26.

Condensing boilers are more energy-efficient. They achieve this efficiency by capturing the heat present in flue exhaust gases and water vapour condensation and recycling that heat to, for example, warm colder water coming back from your radiators.

By choosing the latest condensing boiler, you'll also notice a significant reduction in your gas bills, particularly if you're replacing a boiler more than 15 years old.

Is the Ideal Vogue C26 combi boiler an environmentally friendly choice?

With growing concern among the public about accelerating climate change, how we heat our homes and the impact this has on the environment has become a major topic of concern for many homeowners.

In Britain's bigger cities, gas boilers, in particular, are responsible for dangerous levels of nitrogen dioxide emissions. Overall, 14% of all of the UK’s greenhouse gas production comes from heating our homes.

If you would like your next boiler to help in the fight against climate change, would the Ideal Vogue C26 combi be a suitable choice?

The energy efficiency rating for a boiler describes the amount of energy it uses and wastes during operation and there are two different ways to measure it.

All boilers manufactured and supplied in the UK must have a SEDBUK rating of “A” subject to a minimum energy efficiency score of 92% or above. Before April 2018, the minimum energy efficiency score was 88% (88/89% = "B" SEDBUK rating, 90%+ = "A" SEDBUK rating).

The Ideal Vogue C26 scored an efficiency rating of 93% and a SEDBUK band rating of A.

The Energy Related Products Directive (ERP) was introduced in 2015 and it applies to all products that consume energy throughout their lifetime, including during the manufacturing process and at the point of final disposal.

The purpose of the ERP is to ensure that companies create products that are kinder to the environment by reducing both the energy they use and the harmful emissions they produce.

The Ideal Vogue C26 has an ERP rating of "A" for heat and "A" for hot water production.

How long is the warranty offered by the manufacturer for the Ideal Vogue C26 boiler?

A parts and labour warranty of 8 years is included with the Ideal Ideal Vogue C26 boiler.
