Ideal Logic+ H18 heat only Gas boiler frequently asked questions

Which category of boiler does the Ideal Logic+ H18 fit into?

Suitable for a house or a flat, the Ideal Logic+ H18 heat only boiler is worth considering if you want a heat only boiler.

Heat only boilers are sometimes called standard boilers, regular boilers or conventional boilers but they are actually the same thing. For a heat only boiler, you'll need to find space for both a cold-water tank and an immersion hot water cylinder - most households choose the attic for the former and a landing cupboard or airing cupboard for the latter. The immersion cylinder is the part of the system that keeps your hot water warm.

You program your boiler to provide you with the hot water you want at certain times, such as when you want to have a bath or a shower. However, if you don't remember to program your boiler, you'll have to wait for it to heat up if the hot water has run out.

A regular boiler is the most suitable choice if you have a larger family or if there is more than one bathroom in your home - the more popular combi boilers do not work well in homes where there is high and often simultaneous demand for hot water.

Is the Ideal Logic+ H18 heat only boiler suitable for my house or apartment?

To determine that, we need to consider the size of the boiler. Size doesn't mean how big the boiler is - it means how big its "output" is.

This Ideal Logic+ H18 heat only boiler gets its power from gas and the power it's capable of producing is measured in kilowatts - the output rate is actually a kilowatt rate. The higher the output rate, the more kilowatts a boiler can use when heating water.

If you choose a boiler whose output rate is too low, it may not have enough power to make your water as hot as you would like. If you choose a boiler whose output rate is too high, you won't have to put up with lukewarm water but you will face higher gas bills.

The Ideal Logic+ H18 heat only boiler has an output level of 18 kW, so which types of property would it be appropriate for?

To most experienced Gas Safe engineers, the Ideal Logic+ H18 heat only Logic+ would be most suitable for smaller homes and apartments with up to 10 radiators and one bathroom.

Ideal Logic+ H18 - size in millimetres

The Ideal Logic+ H18 boiler measures 700 mm [H] x 395 mm [W] x 278 mm [D] in size.

Is the Ideal Logic+ H18 non-condensing or condensing?

We recommend that, if possible, you choose a condensing boiler like the Ideal Logic+ H18.

Condensing boilers are more energy-efficient. They achieve this efficiency by capturing the heat present in flue exhaust gases and water vapour condensation and recycling that heat to, for example, warm colder water coming back from your radiators.

By choosing the latest condensing boiler, you'll also notice a significant reduction in your gas bills, particularly if you're replacing a boiler more than 15 years old.

Is the Ideal Logic+ H18 heat only boiler good for the environment?

With so many of us worried about the environmental impact of our personal choices, the relationship between how we heat our homes and climate change has become an important issue for many homeowners.

We generate 14% of UK greenhouse gas emissions through centrally heating our domestic properties. Gas boilers are mainly responsible for harmful nitrogen dioxide emissions in larger British cities.

Would choosing a Ideal Logic+ H18 heat only help in the fight against climate change? What do the performance statistics suggest?

The Ideal Logic+ H18 has been awarded an efficiency rating of 93% and a SEDBUK band rating of "A".

In the UK, all boilers manufactured and supplied must have an energy efficiency rating of at least 92% or a SEDBUK "A" grade. Until April 2018, the minimum rating was 88% (88% and 89% are equivalent to a SEDBUK "B" rating and anything higher is rated "A").

A boiler's energy efficiency rating describes the amount of energy it uses and wastes when in normal operation.

The Energy Related Products Directive grades products according to the energy they consume and the harmful gas emissions they create, from manufacturing right through to final disposal, including how they're used by customers between these two points.

The Ideal Logic+ H18 is rated "A".

How many years' warranty does the Ideal Logic+ H18 heat only come with?

A parts and labour warranty of 7 years is included when you purchase the Ideal Logic+ H18 boiler through PlumbProud.

Ideal Logic+ H18 heat only Gas boiler frequently asked questions

Is the Ideal Logic+ H18 a standard, combi or system boiler?

The Ideal Logic+ H18 is an option you may wish to consider if you’re looking for a heat only boiler for your house or flat.

Heat only boilers are also referred to as regular boilers, conventional boilers or standard boilers. Heat only boilers require both a hot water/immersion cylinder (usually stored in a landing cupboard or airing cupboard) and a cold water tank (usually stored in a loft) to work. Water passes from the cold tank to the immersion cylinder and the immersion cylinder heats and keeps water warm.

You program your immersion cylinder via the control panel to make sure that you have the hot water and central heating you need. However, if you forget to set your system and there's no water left in the immersion cylinder, it can take up to an hour before you'll have hot water again.

If your home has more than one bathroom or you have a large family and there's a high demand for hot water, a heat only boiler is often a more suitable option than a combi boiler. Although combis offer space-saving advantages, there is a maximum volume of water they can heat at any given time. This means that, if two or more people in your household want hot water at the same time, there will likely be a drop in temperature, volume and pressure to both points.

Should I install a Ideal Logic+ H18 heat only boiler in my house or apartment?

Whether this Ideal Logic+ H18 heat only boiler is right for where you live depends on its size or "output" level. Size does not mean its physical dimensions - it means how powerful it is.

A boiler’s output is a measurement of the amount of power it can use to provide hot water to your taps and radiators. The higher its output rate, the more water it can heat.

If your new boiler’s output is too low, your hot water might not be as hot as you want it to be. If it's too high, you’ll be paying more for gas than you need to.

The output of the Ideal Logic+ H18 heat only boiler is 18 kW, so which types of property would this be appropriate for?

Most Gas Safe engineers would suggest that the most suitable type of property for installing a Ideal Logic+ H18 heat only boiler would be smaller homes and apartments with up to 10 radiators and one bathroom.

Making space for the Ideal Logic+ H18

The Ideal Logic+ H18 measures 700 mm in height by 395 mm in width by 278 mm in depth.

Is the Ideal Logic+ H18 a condensing or non-condensing boiler?

The Ideal Logic+ H18 is a condensing gas boiler - this is the type of boiler we recommend to most clients because they're better for the environment and they will save money on annual fuel bills.

A condensing boiler captures and recycles the warmth still present in both the flue exhaust gases and water vapour condensation created when gas is burned to provide your boiler with power.

This means it needs less gas to operate and it uses this extra energy to perform a number of tasks, including heating the colder water that comes back to the boiler from the radiators in your home.

Is the Ideal Logic+ H18 heat only an energy-efficient boiler?

As more of us become concerned by the effects of climate change, the damage we do to the environment by heating our homes has emerged as an important issue for many homeowners.

Approximately 14% of the UK's greenhouse gas production is caused by our central heating systems. The gas boilers in larger urban areas of Britain are mainly responsible for emissions of toxic nitrogen dioxide.

Do the figures suggest that installing the Ideal Logic+ H18 heat only at your property would help in the fight against climate change?

All boilers manufactured and installed in the UK are required by law to have an energy efficiency rating of at least 92%, equivalent to a good “A” rating on the SEDBUK scale. Before this, the minimum was 88% (ratings of 88% and 89% are equivalent to a high “B” SEDBUK rating and anything 90% or higher is an "A" rating).

A boiler's energy efficiency rating is designed to let you know how much energy is used and wasted during normal functioning.

The Ideal Logic+ H18 was given an efficiency rating of 93% and a band rating of "A".

The Energy Related Products Directive (ERP) intends to reduce the amount of energy consumed by individual products over their entire lifetime, from the initial manufacturing process to final disposal and at all points in between.

The legislation is designed to encourage manufacturers to create products that are more environmentally friendly and which result in a reduction in harmful gas emissions.

The ERP rating for the Ideal Logic+ H18 is "A".

Am I covered if the Ideal Logic+ H18 heat only boiler breaks down?

The Ideal Logic+ H18 boiler comes with a parts and labour warranty lasting 7 years.
