When looking for a heat only boiler for your house or flat, the Ideal Logic H18 might be a suitable option for you.
You may hear a heat only boiler described as a standard boiler, a regular boiler, or a conventional boiler but the terms mean the same. Heat only boilers require a hot water cylinder (usually stored in a landing or airing cupboard) and a cold water storage tank (usually stored in the loft) to operate. Your water is kept warm by the hot water cylinder throughout the day.
A heat only boiler lets you schedule the hot water and central heating you want for set times of the day. However, you'll have to wait before having a bath or shower if you forget to set it and there's no hot water left in the tank.
If you have a bigger family or more than one bathroom, a heat only boiler is a better option than a combi boiler in many cases. This is because a combi boiler struggles to maintain water volume, pressure and temperature to multiple points in a home simultaneously.
Whether this Ideal Logic H18 heat only boiler is right for where you live depends on its size or "output" level. Size does not mean its physical dimensions - it means how powerful it is.
The output level of a boiler tells you how much power it has to heat the water coming from your taps and warming up your radiators. The higher the output level, the greater the volume of water it can heat up.
If the output (measured in kilowatts) is too high, you'll pay higher gas bills and your water will be piping hot. Too low and the water coming out of your taps and being fed into your radiators will often be lukewarm.
The Ideal Logic H18 heat only outputs at a maximum of 18 kW, so which types of property would this Ideal Logic H18 heat only boiler be appropriate for?
An experienced boiler engineer would recommend that this Ideal Logic H18 heat only boiler would be a suitable installation choice for smaller homes and apartments with up to 10 radiators and one bathroom.
The Ideal Logic H18 stands at 700 mm tall, 395 mm wide and 278 mm deep.
We always recommend to clients that they select the very latest condensing boiler for their home.
Condensing boilers like the Ideal Logic H18 are more efficient with the gas they use in operation, meaning that you'll benefit from lower fuel bills. Condensing boilers are also better for the environment.
They achieve their efficiency by capturing and recycling the heat still present in the water vapour condensation and flue exhaust gases created when a boiler burns gas to get the energy it needs. It then reuses that recycled heat to perform a number of tasks, including heating the colder water that comes back to your boiler via the radiator.
How we heat our homes and the damage we might be doing to the environment as a result has become an important point of concern to many homeowners worried about climate change.
The power we need for our central heating systems accounts for around 14% of the UK’s greenhouse gas production. There are often dangerous levels of ambient nitrogen dioxide gases in the atmospheres of British cities because of our use of gas boilers.
Would installing the Ideal Logic H18 heat only in your home be an environmentally friendly decision? Let's look closely at the figures.
Boilers manufactured after April 2018 in the UK must achieve an "A" on the SEDBUK grading system as well as score a minimum of 92% on a separate energy efficiency test. Prior to that, the minimum was 88% - boilers rated at 88% and 89% were given a “B” rating (90% and higher were given an "A").
An energy efficiency rating describes how much energy the boiler uses and how much it wastes when in use.
The Ideal Logic H18 was awarded an efficiency rating of 94% with a SEDBUK grading of "A".
The ERP, short for the Energy Related Products Directive, is a European directive aimed at encouraging manufacturers to create products that are environmentally friendlier at all stages, including during manufacturing, when the product is in active use, and right through to the point of final disposal.
The Ideal Logic H18 has a rating of "A" .
A parts and labour warranty of 2 years is included when you purchase the Ideal Logic H18 boiler through PlumbProud.

The Ideal Logic H18 is a gas heat only boiler.
If your home has more than one bathroom or you have a large family that uses a lot of hot water, a heat only boiler (sometimes called a standard boiler, a regular boiler or a conventional boiler) is likely to be the best option for you. Heat only boilers require both a hot water or immersion cylinder and a cold water tank. Once the water in the cylinder is heated, you can use this hot water throughout the day and it can feed multiple taps and showers at the same time.
This is in contrast to a combi boiler which can only heat a limited amount of water at any one time. This can cause a problem if two or more taps and showers are being used simultaneously as the water temperature, pressure and volume to all points will drop.
Heat only boilers allow you to program the times that you want heat and hot water to be available. However, if you forget to do this and the immersion cylinder is empty, you may have to wait up to an hour before hot water becomes available again.
If your property already has a water tank and cylinder, it will nearly always be cheaper to replace like for like instead of replacing it with a different type of boiler. In addition to new pipework, you may need to replace older radiators that may be unable to cope with the higher water pressure delivered by other types of boiler.
You should make sure that the boiler you choose for your property is the right "size". And size doesn't mean its physical dimensions. Size means how much power it has - the "output".
A boiler's output level measures how much power it can use to provide you with the hot water you need for your radiators and taps. If a boiler has a high output rate, it can heat greater volumes of water.
If you choose a boiler with too low an output, you'll find that the water coming out of your taps and in your radiators won't be as hot as you want it to be. Choosing one whose output is too high means you'll pay more than you need to for the gas your boiler needs to work.
The Ideal Logic H18 heat only outputs at a maximum of 18 kW, so which types of property would this Ideal Logic H18 heat only boiler be appropriate for?
A Gas Safe engineer would recommend that the Ideal Logic H18 heat only boiler is a suitable choice for smaller homes and apartments with up to 10 radiators and one bathroom.

The Ideal Logic H18 is a condensing gas boiler - we’d strongly recommend that you choose the very latest condensing model for your home.
Condensing boilers run on either gas or oil and are manufactured specifically to improve energy efficiency. They do this by capturing and recycling the warmth present in flue exhaust gases and water vapour condensation into more usable heat the system can use, meaning they're far more efficient and cost less to run.
How we heat our homes is an issue which many homeowners worry about as the world combats climate change and environmental damage.
Around 14% of the greenhouse gases produced in the UK is a result of our central heating systems. Gas boilers are responsible for dangerous levels of nitrogen dioxide emissions in some of our largest cities.
Would the environmental impact of installing a Ideal Logic H18 heat only in your home be positive? Let's look at the numbers.
An energy efficiency rating of 92% or above is a legal requirement for all boilers manufactured and installed in the UK today. 92% is equivalent to a low-to-middle "A" grade on the "Seasonal Efficiency of Domestic Boilers" (SEDBUK) scale.
Energy efficiency measures how much energy a boiler uses and wastes in the course of its normal operation. The lower the waste, the lower your gas bills.
The Ideal Logic H18 was awarded an efficiency rating of "94%", equivalent to a "A" rating on the SEDBUK system.
The Energy Related Products Directive (ERP) came into force in 2015. This legislation was introduced to encourage manufacturers to create more energy-efficient products and it covers all products that consume energy during their lifetimes, including energy used during production and at the point of disposal.
The ERP assessors assigned a rating of "A" when testing the Ideal Logic H18.
The Ideal Logic H18 boiler is covered by a parts and labour warranty of 2 years.
