Ideal Logic C30 Combi Gas boiler frequently asked questions

Is the Ideal Logic C30 a combi, system or regular boiler?

If you are searching for a combi boiler for your house or flat, the Ideal Logic C30 is certainly one to consider.

Combi boilers were introduced by manufacturers in the 1970s to offer British homeowners a way to cheaply and reliably heat their homes and have hot water without taking up too much space. Previously, most boilers had one or more storage tanks, which either heated water and kept it warm or held water to be heated later.

With combi boilers, there is no need to find space for large tanks around your home as the hot water needed for your radiators and taps is available on demand. Combi boilers do this by drawing water from your mains supply, heating it instantly whenever you need it and then distributing it to where it's needed in the home.

The major disadvantage to combi boilers is that they have a maximum capacity for heating water. In a larger household, water pressure, volume and temperature will drop if two or more people are trying to use hot water at the same time.

Is the Ideal Logic C30 combi suitable for my house or flat?

You should make sure that the boiler you install in your property is the right "size". And, by size, we don't mean how big it is, we mean how powerful it is - the "output".

Your boiler has to be powerful enough to heat all the hot water you need for your radiators and taps. Power is measured in kilowatts and the more kilowatts a boiler has available to it, the more water it can heat.

If the output (measured in kilowatts) is too high, you'll have all the power you need and more but your gas bills will be much higher. If it's too low, you'll often find that the water coming out of your taps and fed into your radiators is only lukewarm.

With the Ideal Logic C30 combi's output at 30.3 kW, which types of property would this Ideal Logic C30 Combi boiler be most appropriate for?

A heating engineer would recommend that this Ideal Logic C30 Combi boiler would be a suitable installation choice for medium-sized homes and larger apartments with 10-15 radiators and two bathrooms.

When choosing a combi boiler for your home, you need to think about "flow rates" as well as output rates. This Ideal Logic C30 Combi boiler's flow rate is 12 L/m.

This indicates the maximum volume of hot water (measured in litres per minute) that your boiler can heat then distribute to your taps, showers and radiators at any one time. The greater the demand for hot water in your home, the higher the flow rate you will require.

However, all combi boilers like the Ideal Logic C30 draw water directly from the mains and heat it instantly.

This means that they can only heat and distribute water at the rate it enters the property (the "mains pressure" rate). For example, if your mains pressure is 11 litres per minute, this will be the highest flow rate you can achieve even if your boiler's flow rate is 17l/m.

When our engineer comes out to quote you, they may recommend that you choose a heat only boiler or system boiler instead if your family's demand for hot water is higher than normal.

Ideal Logic C30 dimensions

The Ideal Logic C30 measures 700 mm tall, 395 mm wide, and 278 mm deep.

Logic C30 – condensing or non-condensing?

Condensing boilers like the Ideal Logic C30 improve energy efficiency and reduce your annual expenditure on gas.

They do this by capturing and recycling the warmth still present in water vapour condensation and flue exhaust gases to, for example, increase the temperature of the colder water returning from your radiators.

Condensing boilers are also much better for the environment because they emit fewer greenhouse gases.

How environmentally friendly is the Ideal Logic C30 combi?

With so many of us worried about the environmental impact of our personal choices, the relationship between how we heat our homes and climate change has become an important issue for many homeowners.

In the UK, central heating systems account for 14% of greenhouse gas production. Gas boilers in particular are responsible for emissions of dangerous nitrogen dioxide in British cities.

Is the Ideal Logic C30 combi an environmentally friendly choice for your home? Let’s have a look at the figures.

All boilers manufactured and installed in the UK are required to have an energy efficiency rating of 92% or above (or a good “A” SEDBUK rating). Before April 2018, when the law changed, the minimum energy efficiency level permissible was 88% (86-90% is a SEDBUK "B" rating and 90%+ is an "A" rating).

A boiler's energy efficiency rating indicates the amount of energy used and wasted during normal operational performance.

Following its assessment, the Ideal Logic C30 was given an efficiency rating of 94% and a SEDBUK grading of "A".

The Energy Related Products Directive (ERP) was introduced in 2015 and it applies to all products that consume energy throughout their lifetime, including during the manufacturing process and at the point of final disposal.

The purpose of the ERP is to ensure that companies create products that are kinder to the environment by reducing both the energy they use and the harmful emissions they produce.

The Ideal Logic C30 has an ERP rating of "A" for heat and "A" for hot water production.

Ideal Logic C30 Combi Gas boiler frequently asked questions

Is the Ideal Logic C30 boiler a combi, regular or a system boiler?

Looking for a gas combi boiler for your flat or house? Then the Ideal Logic C30 may be an option you should consider.

Traditionally, most boilers required you to find space in your property for one or more large storage tanks. These tanks would either keep water warm or hold it in reserve for later heating. Manufacturers originally introduced combi boilers to offer homeowners the same level of warmth and hot water without taking up as much space – remember that the UK has some of the smallest homes in the Western world.

With a combi boiler, the hot water needed for your radiators and taps is provided on demand. Water from the mains passes through your combi boiler and the technology within it instantly heats the cold water. It then distributes that hot water around your home.

The biggest drawback for combi boilers is that they have a maximum capacity in volume for heating water. This means that if someone wants to use the shower while another person wants to use a hot water tap, the amount of water reaching each point falls, resulting in a drop in water pressure.

Is the Ideal Logic C30 combi boiler the right choice for my house or apartment?

To determine that, we need to consider the size of the boiler. However, size doesn't refer to how big a boiler is - it means the size of its "output".

Your boiler’s output is a measurement of the power it has available to heat the volume of water required for your taps and radiators. The higher the output rate, the more water it can heat.

You need to be careful to select a boiler with the optimal level of output for your property though. That's because, if your boiler output is too low, your water and radiators will often not be as hot as you want them to be. If the output is too high, you’ll be paying more for gas than you need to.

The output of the Ideal Logic C30 combi is 30.3 kW, so which types of property would this Ideal Logic C30 Combi boiler be appropriate for?

A heating engineer would recommend that this Ideal Logic C30 Combi boiler would be a suitable installation choice for medium-sized homes and larger apartments with 10-15 radiators and two bathrooms.

With combi boilers like the Ideal Logic C30, you need to take the flow rate into account as well as the output rate.

Combi boilers draw water from the mains and then instantly heat that water and send it to wherever in your home it's needed. Flow rates, measured in litres per minute, are subject to the mains water pressure in your area. So, for example, if the local mains water pressure is 11 litres per minute and the flow rate of your boiler is 14 litres per minute, the boiler will not be able to process more than 11 litres per minute. The flow rate of this Ideal Logic C30 Combi boiler is 12 L/m.

If you live in a home with lots of radiators or bathrooms where many people want to use hot water at the same time, a combi boiler may not be able to cope. For reference, a power shower uses about 10 litres of water per minute. If two people want showers at the same time or one person wants a shower and the other hot water from a tap in the kitchen, your boiler may not have a large enough flow rate even if the local mains water pressure is high.

When our engineer comes out to quote you, they may recommend that you choose a heat only boiler or system boiler instead if your family's demand for hot water is higher than normal.

Ideal Logic C30 size

The Ideal Logic C30 occupies a space of 700 mm high by 395 mm wide and 278 mm deep.

Ideal Logic C30 – condensing or non-condensing?

The Ideal Logic C30 is a condensing gas boiler - we strongly suggest that you choose either this model or a recently released model if at all possible.

A condensing boiler captures and recycles the warmth present in flue exhaust gases and water vapour condensation created by the burning of gas to warm up the water coming back into your boiler - for example, from your radiators.

Condensing boilers cost less to run (lower gas bills) and are better for the environment.

Is the Ideal Logic C30 combi boiler an environmentally friendly choice?

With growing concern among the public about accelerating climate change, how we heat our homes and the impact this has on the environment has become a major topic of concern for many homeowners.

In the UK, central heating is responsible for 14% of greenhouse gas production. Domestic gas boilers emit large quantities of nitrogen dioxide in British cities.

Would the environmental impact of installing a Ideal Logic C30 combi in your home be positive? Let's look at the numbers.

The energy efficiency rating of the Ideal Logic C30 is 94% with a SEDBUK band rating of "A".

Energy efficiency tests record how much energy is wasted on non-core functions during an operation.

By law, all boilers manufactured and supplied in the UK must have a minimum energy efficiency performance level of 92% (equivalent to a SEDBUK "A" grade). Up to April 2018, the minimum performance level was 88% (88% and 89% are equivalent to a SEDBUK "B" grade and 90%+ an "A" grade).

The ERP (or Energy Related Products Directive) is European legislation which applies to all products that consume energy throughout their lifetime.

Its purpose is to encourage manufacturers to offer products that are kinder to the environment by reducing harmful gas emissions at all stages, from production and end use right through to disposal.

The ERP rating for the Ideal Logic C30 is "A" for heat and "A" for water.

What is the length of the warranty on the Ideal Logic C30?

Ideal offers a parts and labour warranty of 2 years on the Ideal Logic C30.
