Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 Combi Gas boiler frequently asked questions

Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 - a regular boiler, combi boiler or system boiler?

If you want a combi boiler for your flat or house, the Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 might be an option for you to consider.

Combi boilers provide hot water or heating for your home on demand. You just need to turn the tap to get hot water or switch on the radiator and you’ll feel your home warm up within minutes.

In contrast, traditional boilers required either one or two large storage tanks to work - one to heat and keep water warm and the other to hold cold water for later heating. If the immersion tank was empty, it wasn’t uncommon to wait up to an hour for enough hot water to fill a bath, for example.

Combi boilers draw cold water from the mains and then heat it instantly whenever it's needed, all from one small unit.

The one disadvantage to combi boilers is that, if more than one point is in use at any one time (for example, if someone is taking a shower and another person turns on a hot water tap elsewhere in the property), water pressure, temperature and volume drop to both points.

Would the Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 combi be a suitable choice of boiler for my house or flat?

Whether this Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 Combi boiler is right for your property depends on its size or what its "output" level is. Size does not mean its physical dimensions, however - it means how powerful it is.

The output rating indicates how much energy a boiler can use in providing you with hot water and heat when you need it from your radiators and taps. The greater the output, the more water it can heat.

It's better to take advice on this from a registered installer because, if your boiler output is too low, your water and radiators might not get as hot as you would like them to be. However, if the output level is too high, you'll end up paying more on your gas bills than you need to.

Which types of property would this Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 Combi boiler be appropriate for given its output of 20 kW?

Most Gas Safe boiler installers would recommend that this Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 Combi boiler would be suitable for smaller homes and apartments with up to 10 radiators and one bathroom.

With all combi boilers, the "flow rate" (measured in litres per minute) is as important a consideration as output rate when choosing which model to go for. This Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 Combi boiler's flow rate is 10 L/m.

Like all combi boilers, the Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 draws water from the mains. It instantly heats that water and then distributes it to the parts of your home which need it - taps, radiators, bathrooms, and so on.

However, the water in the mains pipe that feeds your boilers has its own flow rate - normally between 10 and 12l/m. So if you choose a combi with a flow rate of 14l/m but local water pressure is equivalent to 11l/m, your boiler will actually operate at 11l/m - below its capacity.

In addition, if different family members want hot water at the same time (like for regular morning and evening showers) and your boiler has to provide hot water to your radiators at the same time, a combi boiler may not be suitable.

When our engineer comes out to quote you, they may recommend that you choose a heat only boiler or system boiler instead if your family's demand for hot water is higher than normal.

Where will the Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 fit in my house?

The size of the Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 boiler is 700 mm tall, 390 mm wide, and 295 mm deep.

EcoBlue+ 24 – non-condensing or condensing?

This Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 is a condensing gas boiler - we always recommend that clients choose the latest condensing models to benefit from the technology, which continues to improve year after year.

Condensing boilers capture the heat still present in flue exhaust gases and water vapour condensation, processing them through a secondary heat exchanger to, among other tasks, heat colder water returning from your radiators.

By selecting a modern condensing boiler, you'll save money on your gas bills as well as benefitting the wider environment.

Is the Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 combi environmentally friendly?

As more of us become concerned by the effects of climate change, the damage we do to the environment by heating our homes has emerged as an important issue for many homeowners.

Central heating produces 14% of all greenhouse gas emissions in the UK. Gas boilers in the larger cities emit dangerous levels of nitrogen dioxide.

Would choosing the Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 combi boiler be an environmentally friendly decision? Here's what the figures say.

The Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 has been awarded an efficiency rating of 89.1% and a SEDBUK band rating of "B".

In the UK, all boilers manufactured and supplied must have an energy efficiency rating of at least 92% or a SEDBUK "A" grade. Until April 2018, the minimum rating was 88% (88% and 89% are equivalent to a SEDBUK "B" rating and anything higher is rated "A").

A boiler's energy efficiency rating describes the amount of energy it uses and wastes when in normal operation.

The aim of the Energy Related Products (ERP) Directive is to reduce the harmful gas emissions created during a product’s manufacture and active end use right through to its disposal.

The ERP rating for the Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 is "A" for heat and "A" for water.

Does a Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 combi boiler come with a warranty period?

The Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 boiler comes with a parts and labour warranty of 7 years.

Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 Combi Gas boiler frequently asked questions

Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 - a regular boiler, combi boiler or system boiler?

The Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 is worthy of consideration if you're looking for a combi boiler for your flat or house.

The UK has some of the smallest homes in the Western world, which is partly why combi boilers were introduced in the 1970s. Traditional boilers require one or more large storage tanks which they use to either heat water and keep it warm or store water intended for heating later. These tanks took up a lot of space in people's homes.

Combi boilers save space because they don't require these tanks to operate. Instead, combis draw water direct from your mains supply then instantly heat and distribute it on demand.

The biggest disadvantage in using combi boilers is that they have a maximum capacity volume for heating water. While this may not be an issue in a small household, it could be for a larger household where there is higher demand for hot water. When more than one person is using the water, it is distributed between the two points, reducing the pressure and temperature at each point.

Is the Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 combi boiler suitable for my house or apartment?

Selecting the right boiler for your home means choosing a boiler that is the right size. And, by size, we don't mean how big it is, we mean how powerful it is - the "output".

Your boiler’s output is a measurement of the power it has available to it to heat the water you need for your radiators or for when you turn on a tap, bath or shower. A higher output rate means it has more power and can heat more water.

It's important to choose an output that matches the demand for water in your home because if your boiler has too low an output, you'll often find only lukewarm water comes out of your taps or heats your radiators. If it’s too high, you’ll be paying more for your gas than you need to.

The Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 combi has an output of 20 kW, so which types of property would this Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 Combi boiler be appropriate for?

A PlumbProud Gas Safe engineer would recommend that the most suitable type of property for a Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 combi would be smaller homes and apartments containing up to 10 radiators and providing hot water for one bathroom.

You also need to choose a combi boiler with the right flow rate for where you live.

A combi boiler's flow rate is the maximum volume of water (measured in litres per minute) that it can heat and distribute to your radiators, taps and showers at the same time. This Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 Combi boiler's flow rate is 10 L/m.

However, combi boilers like the Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 draw water directly from the mains and heat it instantly.

If your mains pressure is 12 litres per minute, your boiler can only heat and distribute hot water at a rate of 12 litres per minute even if it has a higher flow rate.

Combi boilers also struggle when multiple people in your home want to use hot water at the same time - for example, someone running the hot water tap in the kitchen and two people wanting to shower in separate bathrooms.

When our engineer comes out to quote you, they may recommend that you choose a heat only boiler or system boiler instead if your family's demand for hot water is higher than normal.

The dimensions of the Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 are

The Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 occupies a space of 700 mm high by 390 mm wide and 295 mm deep.

Is the Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 a condensing or non-condensing boiler?

We recommend that you select a condensing boiler like the Baxi EcoBlue+ gas Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 for your home if possible because of the environmental benefits and the money you'll save on your gas bills.

Condensing boilers are much more energy-efficient than older, non-condensing models as they capture and recycle the heat still present in the water vapour condensation and flue exhaust gases that your boiler creates when burning gas for reuse.

Is the Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 combi an energy-efficient boiler?

The effects of climate change on the environment are leading many homeowners to question the damage they might be doing by the way they heat their homes.

Nitrogen dioxide emissions in Britain's largest cities are at dangerous levels and this has been caused by gas boilers. In fact, 14% of the UK’s greenhouse gases are produced by central heating.

Would choosing the Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 combi boiler be an environmentally friendly decision? Here's what the figures say.

By law, boilers manufactured and supplied in the UK must achieve a SEDBUK rating of "A" and work at a 92% minimum efficiency. Before April 2018, a minimum of 88% energy efficiency needed to be achieved (88/89% = SEDBUK "B" and 90% = SEDBUK "A").

Following official testing, the Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 was given an efficiency rating of 89.1% with a SEDBUK rating of "B".

Energy efficiency is a measure of how much energy is used and how much is wasted when a boiler is operating.

The Energy Related Products (ERP) directive is Europe-wide legislation designed to reduce harmful gas emissions at all points of a product's life cycle - from the production process to its actual end use, right through to final disposal.

The Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 has a rating of "A" for heat and "A" for water.

How many years does the warranty period cover on a Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 boiler?

The Baxi EcoBlue+ 24 boiler is covered by a parts and labour warranty of 7 years.
